Built-In Safety Nets: Your Consumer Rights When Buying Pre-Owned

Discover how the UCDA Code of Ethics, mandatory disclosure laws, and free mediation services protect Ontario car buyers during and after the sale.

Protected at Every Stage of Your Purchase

Buying a pre-owned vehicle should come with complete confidence, transparency, and clarity from start to finish. In Ontario, purchasing through a registered UCDA member dealership ensures you are backed by strict statutory protections and industry-leading ethical standards. From guaranteed clear titles to full vehicle history disclosures, our built-in safety nets protect your investment and wallet every step of the way.

What You Are Entitled to When Buying from a Member Dealer

Mandatory Full Vehicle Disclosure

Unlike private sales, UCDA member dealerships are legally required to disclose critical vehicle history facts prior to signing, including structural/frame damage, daily rental history, out-of-province registration, and major collision repairs exceeding provincial thresholds.

Guaranteed Lien-Free Title Transfer

UCDA dealers guarantee that vehicles sold are free of outstanding bank debts or financial liens. Private purchases carry the risk of repossession if the previous owner owed money on the vehicle.

All-In Transparent Pricing

The price advertised by a member dealer is the price you pay (plus applicable HST and licensing). No hidden administration fees or surprise additions added at signing.
